“I am thankful that CI has a program that allows the therapists to go out into the community to continue the support that a child needs.”

Below is a testimonial from a long-standing CI family. Our client’s mom recently wrote about her daughter’s successful visit to the dentist, due to help from her dedicated CI therapists. Check it out!

Kira has been doing a weekly session of Daily Living Skills (DLS) for 1 ½ years now and it has been invaluable for not only her but me as her mom.

DLS allows us to address areas that she needs support in but don’t always fit into her other therapies. Recently, Kira was having a difficult time getting through some dental work that she needed to have done. Her Recreational Therapist, Janelle, along with her OT, Ashley, immediately jumped in with a plan to help Kira prepare for the appointment.

Janelle set up a walk-through at her dentist office where Kira was able to ask questions, see what tools they would be using, etc. Janelle was at the appointment with us and was able to also ask questions that she knew would be helpful for Kira. After the appointment they wrote a social story using pictures we took at the walk through that we could review at home for several weeks before her appointment.

I can say without a doubt that the visit and social story were a huge part of what helped make Kira’s appointment successful. Kira felt so confident and ready for the appointment that she decided to not use the sedation which was a big step for her.

I am thankful that CI has a program that allows the therapists to go out into the community to continue the support that a child needs.

I have no doubt that without the support Kira had preparing for this appointment, she would not have had a successful appointment where she said with a smile, “I did it! I really did it! I can do hard things!”
